Technical Information
Production Needs
Please confirm your equipment needs, proposed schedule(s), and technical requirements for sound, lights, and stage, as listed in the technical information form, which is due 4 weeks prior to your performance.
Length of Performance
Performances cannot be longer than 3.5 hours, including intermission.
Second performances on the same day must have at least two hours between the end of the first performance and the start of the second performance.
Multiple Performances on one Day
There are a number of complicating technical & labour factors which impact multiple shows on a single day.
Audience experience
Parking limitations
Cleaning the theatre between performances
Resetting the stage
Staff breaks
For these reasons, a minimum of 90 minutes is required between the end of the first show and the start of the second show.
Technician Call Times
Please allow at least 30 minutes between your arrival and rehearsal time if you don’t require setup. Technicians are required to be in the facility at least one hour prior to your performance.
A 15-minute break is required for all staff after no more than 3.5 hours of continuous labour. An unpaid meal break of 1 hour is required for all staff after 5 hours of labour. The stage will not be accessible during the meal break unless staggered meal times have been pre-arranged with the stage manager.
The stage manager will be in contact 4 weeks prior to your event to confirm a daily schedule for your event.
Special Effects
Please consult with our Stage Manager about any special effects including fog, haze, strobe lights, and open flame. All costs associated with required control measures must be assumed by the client. Many of these effects are subject to legislation and established policies and procedures.
Clients are liable for any charges due to accidental fire alarms caused by open flame/fog/haze. The use of pyrotechnical effects is prohibited in our facilities. We do not have a silent alarm system option.
As we share the building complex with other tenants and businesses, we are unable to disable the alarm systems (i.e. “test mode”) for any reason.
Our facility is located on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy and Metis Region 3. Traditional events often involve a opening blessing and smudging ceremony by an Elder. We regret that this is not permissible in our facility due to very sensitive fire alarm systems. A blessing with smokeless tobacco is most welcome.
Firearms
All firearms used in performance must be non-firing replicas.
Set
Please notify the Stage Manager if you have a set. Sets must be constructed in a manner that will not be a safety hazard, using fire-resistant materials. Cardboard sets are not permitted.
Major construction should be completed before move-in. PCPA cannot provide tools or hardware for your scenery. If you plan on completing any construction or painting on site, please discuss your plans and needs with the Stage Manager before move in.
Articles known to cause allergic reactions are restricted. This includes, but is not limited to, hay and straw.
Sets and props must be move out of the facility at the end of your last performance day.
Sets may not be disposed of in our dumpsters. Use of our private dumpsters for set disposal will incur a pickup/dump fee of $500.
Lighting Requirements
Our house plot normally meets the needs of our clients. If you require extra fixtures to be added, we will allocate more time for your set-up and strike. For more information on our house plot and lighting inventory, please contact our Stage Manager.
Advance notice to change the house plot is imperative, as the Polaris Centre does have a scissor lift on site. The cost of rental will be invoiced to the renter. On average, each lighting fixture takes 15 minutes to install, and 10 minutes to remove. Please plan for each lighting cue to take five minutes to develop from start to finish. Please contact our stage manager no later than 4 weeks prior to your event to ensure that you have scheduled enough time.
Most of our lighting equipment is included in your booking rental fee. Materials such as gel, gobos, third-party rentals, specialty items, or another direct material costs may be subject to an additional fee.
Sound Requirements
Our audio system meets the needs of most of our clients. For information and specs, please contact the stage manager.
We are fortunate to have excellent acoustics for live acoustic music. If you plan to reinforce your performance with the addition of microphones, such as a live band, the audio console may need to be placed in the house, and an audio technician in the audience to properly mix your performance. Please consult with our Stage Manager before your complete your ticket request form in order to ensure that the appropriate seating has been held for this.
Most of our audio equipment is included in your booking rental fee. Specialty items such as wireless mics, stage monitors, third-party rentals, and any other direct material costs may be subject to an additional fee.
